crit sesh

just got back from university.... so thought id post my verdict on crit session... saw some really good stuff today making me think that i need to spend more time creating and understanding more of the process's even stuff like basic rendering... so gonna work on a side low polly city modelling... could take me some time but hey... GOD loves a trier.

In all i thought my work for my standards was good... but obviously crit sesh is all about taking ideas on board... i feel if i had more time on it i would do ten times better...

really loved harrys and raros work... thought it was different yet simplistic and keeping to the 80's retro brief...

NEXT PROJECT definitally pulling my game up!

final One

WOOP WOOP

Finally finished rendering....

What Went Well...

- Music Timing
- Graphics... (ish baring pixelation on some files)
- Using paths to intro the text...
- Outro Part (back to the future logo)

Even Better If...

- my rendering worked and i didn't have to rename 500 files to change the output file
- If it rendered i would of done the camera within MAYA a lot different... but beggars cant be choosers
- probably made the delorion in maya and model it in over the intro sequence..

IN ALL

I thought it went OKAYish despite my hickups along the way...

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT BRIEF

Just incase...

Just incase jeremy cant help me on monday... ive figured out the problem but theres no bath sequence renamer that i can find... so ive had to go in and rename 400 files so the (frame sequence no).jpg instead of .jpg.(sequence number)for them to register as pictures

ALLL I HAVE TO SAY IS... I HATE RENDERING!

hate my life right now...

i cant for the love of GOD render... this piece of work... Maya just wont let me render out ive tried everything... Going seeing Jeremy on monday morning 9am 24hours before hand in hopefully he can suss it out and then its gonna be a bodge job adding the rest off the effects i wanted to do in after effects... (not happy about this) i thought a simple bit of 3D would be easy to control... but NO!

some screen grabs once i started to bring it back

First screen grab is obviously of my work space... i realise i hate maya even for the simplistic use i was using it for.

Second screen grab is the wireframe model so it actually shows you me using maya to a degree of strength while modelling polygons.

Final screen grab is of me sussing how to redo what jeremy did in lesson for me... and texture the plane which i then put on to the 3d Frames.... (very confusing but effective) he also explained to me the different between lambient and phong etc... so i new which to texture and how to do so.

work space from hell

had real troubles with my maya, today!!!

had to resolve to asking for help.... (which i don't mind) luckily jeremy lee was available to hand to help me with the applying the pictures to the planes....

Unfortunately i slipped up and i used nurb planes instead of polygon planes but jeremy really helped and sat me down and taught me how to use the polygon planes as surface uv's then adjust accordingly to the corresponding picture size.

luckily its a quick error to adjust, once thats altered ill be able to complete the camera angles and continue with production of my project... Take it into after effects and composite my files up and hopefully complete a 1st draft for next few days.

screen grabbing from hell

so yeh... been grabbing screens from the films for pre-production... but by god with a 720 version of the film the film quality is so grainy but i guess thats what the filming was like back when this was filmed....

arr well hopefully these will be good enough for my project...

ALSO FOUND THIS made me LOLOLOLOL

A.J.T

been working out my layout for my pictures...

finally finished the way i want it too look with the camera rolling clockwise starting from top left... all the way around then zoom out and the MIDDLE FRAME (back 2 Future) drops in from top right through camera and then the text animated onto it then zoom into the centre point of the e the middle gap and then the film will start from there...

been blog storming

okay so i've been working over somethings on back to the future blog, been working in after effects and focusing on how id like to go about my project....

im going to be doing alot in 3ds max... going to be working it as a wall of photoframes, and working things into it that way...

so for my cast that i will introduce therte will be 6 characters...

1 - Christopher Lloyd - Dr Emmett Brown

2 - Micheal J. Fox - Marty McFly

3 - Claudia Wells - Jennifer Parker

4 - Crispin Glover - George McFly

5 - Lea Thompson - Lorraine Baines (marty's mum from the past before she met george DONT FORGET THAT ANT ITS IMPORTANT YOU GET THE RIGHT SCREEN GRABS)

6 - Thomas F. Wilson - Biff Tannen (Hey McFly your shoe's are untied.... LOLOLOLOLOL)

Working on my wall layout in photoshop.... gonna be spending all day in the studios at uni making basic frames to somehow green screen some pics in will have to speak to big M about figuring out how to replace the picture i think ive seen a tutorial will have to find it.

throwing photo's

this is another idea i wouldn't mind pushing on....

the throwing photos look obviously could even be videos and then place them... on a wall with the name of the character he/her plays and the name of the actor/actress in bigger letters underneath...

another version of this effect

i forgot about this advert till now... i remembered how nice the transition worked ... wouldnt mind using some aspect of this effect into my style...

Figuring out stuff...

Had a few ideas since my last lesson,

i thought of 80's style picture frames in z space with animated text under the characters picture... and bring the intro in that way then flame it up with the car flames at the end... but creating this sort of concept confuses me...

i've thought of creating the frames in after effects using 3D layers and layering them up... and having complete control over them in comps and neatening work flow...

or i've thought off modelling frames in 3Ds max and importing them into after effects. I've started tweaking with this ideas as i'm not so confident working with after effects yet, I've been watching a lot of After Effects introductions on youtube... but they all seem very generic like they've used plugins... weather thats aloud or not for this brief is a different mater i wanted to be proud of doing something from scratch.

these are a few ideas i wouldn't mind pushing on for this brief...

filmstrip idea... pictures of the character with text going along introducing the actor...

Photowall... but have them all start off in line then explode through Z space... and have camera pan through it with like stars and sciency back to the future stuff... like flux capacitor and what not... might need help with this one...

mix between photowall and this

THIS IS IT!!! this is the 80's zspace fly through style i was looking for.... now how to figure out how to make it

Outdated.... or Current...

New James Bond

Comparing the old bonds to the new bonds introduction, there is so much we can do in this time era compared to the old days when bond came around first... but as you can see it really experiments with ZSPACE and camera angles... it even starts off with the original bonds but from the opposite so you can see the trail of the bullet...

PERSONALLY - there far too long... but they fit the music well.

James Bond Introduction

James Bond

The original 'bonds' started off with this kind of shutter speed effect and worked it into the film as it shown you not only the concept of the film, it was catchy, it was repetitive.. and it WORKED!

When you saw this you knew you was watching a bond film.

Video Intros

The Naked Gun

(trying to find a video without ripping it from the dvd)

In my opinion one of the best introductions to a film ever, i love the humour that it tries to evoke. you see minimal just following a red flashing light but then sometimes it would reverse and you would see new things that you didnt see the first time.

Getting my head around this project

so, we had a lesson less than a week ago and we watched Back to the Future 1 and then we got told at the end of it we would be making a title sequence I.e. Intro credits for back to the future as it kind of just phases in...

Guidelines I've made for myself
  • 80's or earlier...
  • 30-90 seconds long...
  • to do with the film but not to give anything away...
  • 3D lettering would be good to use...
  • NO reference to the 2nd or 3rd movie...
  • UP TO YEAR 3 STANDARDS (need to upgame)...
